Skillingsboller
makes 10 large buns
1/4 ounce package yeast
1/2 cup warm water
1/2 warm milk
1/4 cup sugar
1/3 cup melted butter
1 teaspoon salt
1 egg
3 1/2 cups flour
Filling:
1 stick butter, softened
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
3 tablespoons sugar
1/2 cup marzipan
1/4 cup chopped almonds
Powdered sugar
Water
In a small bowl, dissolve yeast
in water and set aside for about
5 minutes.
In a large bowl, mix milk, sugar,
butter, salt and egg.
Add the yeast mixture to the flour.
Knead dough on a floured surface
for a few minutes.
Place in a greased bowl, cover
with plastic wrap and leave at room
temperature for 1 1/2 hours.
Preheat oven to 350˚F.
Roll dough out on a floured surface
to form a 10” x 15” rectangle.
For the filling:
Mix together butter, cinnamon
and sugar and spread on the dough.
Crumble the marzipan and add to
the dough; sprinkle with almonds.
Roll into a sausage shape and cut
into 10 slices.
Place on a parchment-paper-covered
cookie sheet and bake for about 8
minutes or until golden.
Cool on a wire rack.
Mix together enough powdered
sugar and water until smooth; add
a little on each bun.
